Mastic & Glue Removal
The Story: This old strip mall, after numerous tenants had used the space, with a 12 x 12 VC tile on it.

No one knew what was below the tile. The mastic used to place the VCT was black, cutback, asphalt type adhesive – an owner’s nightmare. The goal was to deliver a dye and sealed floor system – low maintenance, long sustainability, for retail use. The general contractor recommended shot-blasting the surface. The owner, quickly learned, shot blasting would leave the floor marked with corn-rows, deep fractures and leave the surface unusable for his desired finish.
Asbestos Testing: After an independant lab tested the adhesive, no asbestos was found.
Solution: Grind it down. Concrete Surface Techs was contracted to grind down and remove the cutback tile mastic. Accomplishing a level smooth floor, ready for further grind profiling to allow for a dye and seal floor system – all done in a few days keeping the project on track.

Owner – “Seeing what you guys did with this floor, I now know that shot-blasting wouldn’t have been good option. You’re process made the floor smooth, which shot-blasting wouldn’t have.”
